A very original big bumper GTI, mechanically un-modified that presents and drives very well, which has been with it’s current keeper for 15.5 years.
Finished in Tornado Red with it’s original Grey/Red sports check cloth upholstery in almost perfect condition.
First registered 2 days after it’s PDI inspection on 9/01/1990 with 5 previous keepers and 113,815 miles. Current odometer display and MOT mileage is in addition to 48,864 miles covered up to March 2000 due to a speedometer replacement noted in the service booklet. The overall condition of the vehicle is fantastic for the age and mileage, there are is no corrosion to any panel or underside of the vehicle.

I’m excited to offer this car for sale after looking at it longingly for the last ten years where it has been in dry storage at the MOT station used It’s current owner, a motoring journalist, purchased the car from it’s previous keeper 15 years ago in October 2009. It was I regular use until 2015 when he moved to Columbia with work, it was left in the care of his father (an MOT tester and classic car mechanic) who has cared for it since. With non plans of returning to England anytime soon, I have been tasked with finding at a loving new home.
Condition:
Age related marks to the paint and plastic mouldings and paint depth readings all point to the majority being original to the car, bar the N/S rear door top section which shows paint shrinkage.
The interior is in fantastic order, there is a very small area of wear to the drivers seat bolster & piping, all bolsters are firm and the fabric shows little to on signs of wear, staining or damage throughout including carpet set, door cards etc.
The rear most area of the headlining is sagging, fully re-covered GRP replacements are available from eBay for £150, I’m happy to discuss about organising this replacement.
The original ’10 hole’ steel wheels have been upgraded to BBS ‘RA’ alloys, likely as a dealer fit which was popular at the time. They are 6jx15” re-finished in bright Silver and are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres which are dated 2013 and have no signs of cracking or age related wear and have covered around 7,000 miles since fitting. The NSF has light curbing, the other 3 are free from curb rash and in very good order.
Maintenance history:
Original booklet folder containing the following booklets: service schedule, owners manual, handover guide, European service locations, on-call information and service advisors business card.
The original purchase invoice is present within the paperwork.
The service book shows 8 main dealer stamps from the pre-delivery service on 17/01/1990 through to a cam belt service on 19/02/2000 at 47,926 miles. On 06/03/2000 and 48,864 a speedometer replacement was necessary which must be added to the 64,951 miles that it shows today, making the total mileage 113,815.
There are 2 folders full of invoices organised in date order containing maintenance records and parts invoices dated from 2000-2014 and annual maintenance and service invoices through this period when Jack was using the vehicle.
In the 9 years since 2015 the vehicle has seen very light use of just over 6,000 miles maintaining it’s condition rather than just being ‘stood up’ we will carry out a mechanical inspection addressing any issues and also a fluids/filters/belt service prior to handover.
MOT History is present dating back from 2007 - 2024, any advisories though the years have been addresses so no lingering issues have affected the car. It was tested in May this year and passed with non advisories so has almost 10 months MOT remaining. Every vehicle that I sell is tested by an independent MOT station, if you wish this to be an inspection only rather than a full logged test given it tested only 2 months ago please let me know.
